Hi, I'm David Kohn.
I'm The Guardian journalist who wrote the article The Great Betrayal,
How The Hillsborough Families Were Failed by the Justice System,
which we published in The Guardian on the 21st October 2021.
I have been writing about The Hillsborough Disaster, the miscarriages of justice,
and the bereaved families' campaign for the truth and justice and accountability for almost 30 years now, since 1996.
The article was written in 2021 because the families had really exhausted all legal processes.
They got the unlawful killing verdict of the inquest jury in 2016,
and the jury also found that no behaviour by Liverpool supporters had contributed to the disaster.
So it was complete vindication for the families, as it was then,
27-year fight and survivors, and everyone connected and associated with Liverpool Football Club.
And then there were prosecutions, but the South York Police Officer's charge were acquitted, and that was it.
There was no more legal process.
Since then,
the families have always continued to highlight the fact that they don't believe that justice has been served.
Nobody's been held accountable for the terrible circumstances.
And as their legacy, they're very much campaigned for what's called Hillsborough Law.
And since the article was written, that's developed, and the Labour Government has pledged to introduce it,
and that will introduce a legal duty of candour on police forces, police officers, and public servants.
