The U.S. is officially back to UNESCO, the United Nations agency on educational, scientific and cultural affairs, after a five-year absence. The Biden administration proposed in June to rejoin UNESCO and committed to paying 619 million USD in arrears over the coming years in installments. A vote was held late June in the Paris headquarters of the agency on the matter, during which 132 states voted in favor and 10 states, including China, Russia, and Iran, voted against.
