单集简介 ...

Every child has wondered of their parent: What were you like when you were my age? Who were you before I was here? And every parent has to decide how honestly to answer those questions. The Sugars discuss with poet and author Mary Karr, who has written three memoirs about her reckless youth and raised a son who was intimately familiar with those years.

  • Hey, Sugar fans, we are going to be taking some time off to work on new episodes, and we'll be back this summer with a brand new season of Deer Sugar radio.

  • That's right.

  • We'll be releasing episodes and seasons going forward, and we have some more exciting developments on the horizon that we can't quite tell you about yet, but we will soon.

  • And now listen, there's something you can do in the meantime for us, though, because you listeners are the reason we love making this show more than anything.

  • And we want you to actually be a part of planning what shows we do moving ahead.

  • So if you have an idea for an episode, write to us@deersugarradiomail.com and put show idea in the subject line.

  • We're going to be listening back during this little break to some of our favorite episodes of Dear Sugar radio.

  • Enjoy and stay tuned.

  • The universe has good news for the lost, lonely and heartsick Sugar is here, the both of us speaking straight into your ears.

  • I'm Cheryl strayed.

  • I'm Steve Almond.

  • This is Dear Sugar radio.

  • Oh dear song, won't you please share some little sweetness with me?

  • I check my bell eyes every day oh, and the sugar you see in my way.

  • Dear sugar, how do I parent teenage children through the scary minefield of risky behaviors of sex, drugs and alcohol when I myself was a terrible teenager and young adult who did many things that were dangerous, illegal and destructive?

  • One of my sons knows of my previous behavior only because he found my high school yearbook, which is full of notes from friends which tell many things about my past I wish he never knew.

  • I'm ashamed and embarrassed of the things I did.

  • He clearly knows I abused alcohol, drugs, skipped school, etcetera, when I was his age.

  • How do I talk to him about my past?

  • How do I respond to him saying, you, did all that, mom, and you turned out fine.
