Jamie Dornan is an actor who first came to the attention of television audiences in 2013 when he played serial killer Paul Spector in the BBC series the Fall. Two years later he starred alongside Dakota Johnson in the film Fifty Shades of Grey and went on to play the same part in the rest of the trilogy. In 2022 he was the lead in the BBC drama the Tourist which was watched by millions of viewers and recently returned for its second season. Jamie was born in Holywood in County Down. At 10 he played Widow Twankey in the school pantomime - a defining moment for him when he experienced the thrill of playing to a live audience. After dropping out of university Jamie became a model and worked on big campaigns for some leading fashion brands before landing his first acting part in Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette in 2006. His role in the Fall was his big break and the Fifty Shades films catapulted him to movie star status. Before this BBC podcast kicks off, I'd like to tell you about some others you might enjoy.
My name's Will Wilkin and I commission music podcasts for the BBC.
It's a really cool job.
Every day we get to tell the incredible stories behind songs, moments and movements.
Stories of struggle and success, rises and falls, the funny, the ridiculous.
And the BBC's position at the heart of british music means we can tell those stories like no one else.
We were, are, and always will be right there at the center of the narrative.
So whether you want an insightful take on music right now or a nostalgic deep dive into some of the most famous and infamous moments in music, check out the music podcasts on BBC sounds.
BBC Sounds Music Radio podcasts hello, I'm Lauren La Verne and this is the Desert Island Discs podcast.
Every week I ask my guests to choose the eight tracks, book and luxury they'd want to take with them if they were cast away to a desert island.
And for rights reasons, the music is shorter than the original broadcast.
I hope you enjoy listening.
My castaway this week is the actor Jamie Dornan.
He was born in Hollywood, the Belfast one, but his career has taken him to the more famous one, first as an internationally successful model and then as one of the most in demand actors of his generation.
The model turned actor tag was, he says, a difficult one to shake at first, but he did it with famously good humour and critically acclaimed performances, like his breakthrough role as the disturbingly charming serial killer in the BBC drama the Fall.
Since then, hes earned rave reviews playing Kenneth Branaghs father in the film Belfast.
Along the way, he fronted the billion dollar franchise that was the 50 Shades of Grey series and starred in the hit television series the Tourist, which attracted millions of viewers and recently returned for its second season.
He says theres no better high than reading a script and feeling that youre the only person who can bring it to life.
But it goes with that constant babble with your inner self after you've convinced yourself it has to be you on day one, you're questioning why they haven't considered the other guy.
Jamie Dornan, welcome to Desert Island Disc.
