Monocle contributor Adam Hancock takes us to Little Portugal
in the heart of Petersham to learn more about Sydney's Portuguese diaspora
and try some of the cuisine himself.

But the culture of these two places brings them a lot closer together.
New Canterbury Road may appear like any other busy street in the city's inner west,
but if you look closely, it's filled with Portuguese businesses.
From shops to restaurants and cafes, this is the place to visit for a taste of Portugal in the heart of Sydney.
Before sampling some of the culinary delights that this neighbourhood has to offer,
I wanted to find out a little bit more about why Petersham came to be known as Little Portugal.

The Portuguese, just like many migrant communities in Australia, really resettled after World War II.
That was a huge wave of migration happened and in that process,
